Matt Hancock acknowledges Long Covid at the Health and Social Care Committee

Updated: Apr 18, 2024

Long covid has at last been acknowledged by the UK Government. Two months after our Open Letter was sent to Boris Johnson, Matt Hancock and other health policymakers, the condition has now been officially recognised.

The health secretary emphasised that long term symptoms do not correlate with acute illness severity and that young people can be sick for months. "The impact of long covid can be really debilitating for a long period of time".

Post covid clinics were discussed - the committee was told they have been set up since July - but GPs don't seem to be able to refer patients. We will update this blog when we find out more about these clinics.
